Clock Repair Services

Estimate

Travel fee/small repairs $20-$40

There is no charge to look at your timepiece as long as you can bring the item to me for appraisal. In most cases, it will simply be assessing whether an oiling or overhaul is recommended. Smaller Repairs can be done, but only oilings and overhauls come with warranties on the work.

Battery Operated Clocks $25-$85

I do work on battery operated clocks, although the recommended repair will almost always be replacing the movement. Basic movements have the option of a ticking or sweeping second hand, and movements can be ordered with pendulums and chiming complications as well! For time-only movements, I keep a small selection in stock for a quick turn-around and these usually start at $25.

Overhaul

Average Cost $380

After about 20 years of running (especially if oilings are neglected) the movement inside of the clock will begin to wear out, and normal maintenance will no longer be sufficient to get it working again. Whether it’s from normal use, broken internal components, or poor manufacturing, the movement will need to be rebuilt. In this process I completely disassemble the mechanism, polish the pivots, add bushings to fix wear, and replace parts as needed. This will usually be around 5-7 weeks for the labor: troubleshooting, ordering parts, and other customer jobs may create further delays. This work comes with a 6 month warranty, but the movement should be operational for several years.

Oiling

Average cost $175

Like a car engine, mechanical movements also need maintenance and oil changes, and it’s best to do this at least every 5 years. In this process I partially disassemble the clock, clean out all the old grime, and make light repairs as needed. The mechanism is re-lubricated and tested for at least a week to troubleshoot any issues and there is a 3 month warranty on the work. Expected turnaround time for an oiling is 3-5 weeks.

Meet the Clockmaker

Hi!

My name is Hya (Hi-uh), and I grew up in Brighton CO where I began my clock-repair journey. While riding my bicycle back in 2015, I took a hard fall and broke my watch, but that’s how I met a wonderful watchmaker named Gerald! Starting at 15 years old, I began apprenticing at Gerald’s Watch Repair and slowly built my skills and experience over the next 10 years there. I have worked on countless different types of clocks and absolutely love the work that I do! Mechanical work is my passion, and in this throw-away world that we live in, I hope to conserve as many pieces as I can.

As long as you have the patience, I have the time!
